My work at Culture Change and Sail Transport Network is somewhat neglected lately due to having to deal with our Wrongful Death lawsuit. Petroleum and culture change issues are, however, paramount in the case. Thanks for understanding.

Please help get the word out on this campaign to fight Big Oil money and the scourge of elder abuse and fraud. After you read the following, you might connect clearly on this issue. From the latest Case Management Statement, filed in Santa Barbara Superior Court today, case # 1371627, the summary:

"'Mesa Lundberg was murdered or it was manslaughter,' said the Coroner's chief investigator for L.A. County.

Mesa Vernell Dobson Lundberg, 1920-2008
Defendants had defrauded Plaintiffs' mother Mesa V. Lundberg, Esq. of all her assets by primarily preventing her from living in her own home where she would receive far less expensive and one-on-one professional care. Forced to reside in a hospice-respite facility, Mesa V. Lundberg got almost no exercise, therapy or even mobility, causing health to deteriorate. She lacked upper teeth for her 7-year stay, limiting nutritional intake when no liquid diet was substituted. She was not terminally ill, was lucid, and consistently expressed her wish to leave the facility to live in her own home with family. She was killed secretly under morphine; a Suspected Elder Abuse filing was made by Coroner."
There are quite a few other families suffering from the scam of conservatorship and elder abuse, leaving many affected family members poor, without homes, and robbed of enjoying the presence and love of family members who are sometimes taken out of their homes to meet early deaths. Granted, there was extra incentive for our Defendants to do what they did when a lot of money from Big Oil was involved.

Next time you hear or read the words "Lundberg Survey" you might help people realize what is actually behind the family name that owned the company together. The firm became a bludgeon, including as an anti-environmentalist tool of Big Oil. Reasonable goals of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and climate protection became antithetical to Lundberg Survey under Trilby Lundberg, who, as alleged in the our Complaint, took the firm from her mother under questionable circumstances.

Our family has suffered for two and a half decades from a member who is gravely, mentally disturbed and harms others. Unfortunately, "$ociety" favors exempting from institutionalization -- and it even rewards -- those who act extremely greedy without regard to others.

Getting to the jury-trial stage is not guaranteed, as my brother and I are trying to proceed without a lawyer, and court rules and the law can be like navigating a minefield or joining a rigorous, strange religious order. Besides our not being able to afford an attorney, our cause is having a surprisingly hard time getting much public attention. As you know from many campaigns, only an audible or visible outcry can stop an injustice and promote healing.

Thanks,

Court case update as of Feb. 20, 2012: Big-Oil Lundberg v Eco-Lundbergs: Court denies time extension request in wrongful death case

Background on fighting Big Oil:
The first major project of Culture Change, not long after it was founded in 1988 as the Fossil Fuels Policy Action Institute, was the Alliance for a Paving Moratorium. We maintained a Road-Fighting Network and published the Auto-Free Times magazine. We linked the practice of road building to population growth, to unsustainable suburban culture, and to perpetuating oil wars. After 2001 our focus shifted, although remained on oil wars. Going after the plastic plague was a new front for resisting petroleum dependence. We formed the Committee Against Oil Exploration, whose website became a resource especially when the BP had its Gulf blowout. Jan Lundberg has been in the trenches full time since 1988.
